ICAR Letter to President Obama on Launch of U.S. National Action Plan on Responsible Business Conduct

On September 30, the International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR) sent a letter to President Barack Obama, thanking him for announcing that the United States government will develop a National Action Plan (NAP) on responsible business conduct.

This move from the administration came in the wake of advocacy by a coalition of civil society organizations, led by ICAR. National Action Plans (NAPs) on business and human rights, already published in Denmark, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, are intended to lay out what governments will do to promote better corporate human rights practices, in keeping with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

“The U.S. National Action Plan on responsible business conduct is an incredibly important step towards building coherency in policy, practice, and enforcement of protections for human rights, labor rights, and the environment across the U.S. government,” wrote Amol Mehra, Director of the International Corporate Accountability Roundtable (ICAR).
